CONTEXT: IF THEY BUILD A WALL, WE CAN build a bridge, 2017 a permanent site specific photographic installation, 28M x 1M bentleigh station bridge, centre road Melbourne
description: the work is about the notion of building bridges not walls The new bridge structure on site was once a barrier
I use site-determined digital imagery to locate the viewer within oscillations of physical and digital space
the work looks at ways to negotiate the perimeters, constraints and tension of this architecture
familiarity with the site inherent abstractions of imagery enlarged and sampled from the immediate location
The work proposes that the viewer consider what constitutes the occupation of a place, and, who or what imposes potential blocks and barriers, be they either enforced, falsified, occupied, or contained as an artwork, or, as an independent condition existing outside of these lines of separation.
The work suggests larger issues about conflict and division.
